There are still some spots left for “Writing For Wonder And Amazement,” which I’ll be teaching at StoryStudio this Saturday on November 7th from 10am-1pm. This is the second time I’ll be teaching this class at StoryStudio and I’m very excited to return to this material!
Sign up for "Writing For Wonder And Amazement” on 11/7.
Class Description
“The numinous,” a word often used in relation to the spiritual, describes a tremendous experience that fills us with awe, mystery, and wonder, and often, a sense of vastness and interconnection. To experience the numinous in poetry and prose is to engage with language that disorients us into a state of wonder and amazement. Although this experience is induced by language, we’re often left as readers with a feeling of speechlessness.
In this class, we’ll try writing exercises designed to induce states of wonder and amazement, and learn how to better incorporate a sense of the numinous into our own work. Readings will include work by Ocean Vuong, Ada Limón, Clarice Lispector, Li-Young Lee, Rumi, and Carson McCullers.
In addition to writing exercises, this class includes a mind/body relaxation exercise, the sharing of work, and a Q&A. You’ll leave the class with a few pages of writing on a new or pre-existing project, and hopefully, a renewed sense of enchantment. This class will serve prose writers, poets, and anyone else seeking to connect to the numinous through language.
